Born in Budapest where he still lives, András graduated from the Faculty of Law of ELTE University, Budapest. After college he worked as a journalist and as a language teacher, and lived in Mexico for a year. He currently works as a freelance poet and translator from English, Spanish and French. He has translated a volume of poems by Robert Frost, by Seamus Heaney, and by Jorge Luis Borges, as well as Shakespeare’s Henry VI, among other things.
András has published one volume of poems to date (Aminek két neve van, 1998), and is currently working on his second one. A collection of his poems has been published in Spanish with the title Canción de cuna. He has received a number of literary awards for his poetry, including the József Attila Prize, the Vas István Prize and the Graves Award. His poems have been translated into several languages; including into English (published in New Order. An Anthology of Hungarian Poets, ed. George Szirtes, Arc Publications, 2010) and French (Trois poètes hongrois, Éditions du Murmure, 2009).
He is editor on staff of Nagyvilág, a literary magazine which publishes contemporary literature translated into Hungarian. He teaches courses on poetry and translation, and has recently started publishing essays.
